Installation process

Most installations can be completed in 1-2 days.

Yes! ElectroSea products can be installed while the boat is in the water.

ElectroStrainer is about the same size as a traditional sea strainer.

Chemicals or additives

Seawater flows through titanium plates that are coated with a special metal oxide catalyst. When this coating is electrified by DC current, a chemical reaction occurs and NaOCl (chlorine) is generated.

ElectroSea’s ClearVis contact-less flow sensor measures seawater flowing through the intake. Flow-rate data from the ClearVis is sent to the Control Unit and specifies precisely how much chlorine ElectroStrainer or ClearLine should generate in real time.

No! Chemicals or additives are NOT required. ElectroStrainer and ClearLine electrochemically generate a low, safe level of chlorine directly from the seawater that flows through the system. No chemicals are added, and you’ll never need to descale your lines again!

Acid descaling does not prevent biofouling and marine growth. It is an expensive process that you have to perform over and over again. If you have ElectroStrainer or ClearLine, then you Never Have to Descale Again!

Maintenance and warranty

ElectroStrainer and ClearLine are warrantied for a period of two years from the date of end-user purchase.

ElectroSea will NOT void your air conditioner, chiller, or pump warranty. ElectroSea is safe to use with any marine air conditioner, chiller, and seawater pump. ElectroSea actually helps your equipment work more efficiently as it keeps your condenser coils free and clear of marine growth. ElectroSea has over 26 million successful run hours on 65+ boat brands.

There is no scheduled maintenance. The Control Unit will tell you if you have a “Low Flow / Check Strainer” alert. If so, simply remove the strainer basket and screen and rinse with fresh water.

The electrochemical cell will last two to five years depending on use hours, flow rate, and other factors.

There is a red “cell” light on the Control Unit that will be illuminated at the end of life.

Safe for my boat, air conditioner and the environment?

Yes! ElectroStrainer and ClearLine are safe for your boat. ElectroSea has over 26 million successful run hours on 65+ boat brands and is standard / option on major brands.

Yes! ElectroStrainer and ClearLine are safe for air conditioners with copper nickel or titanium heat exchangers. ElectroSea creates about the same amount of chlorine found in tap drinking water. Further, preventing biofouling with ElectroSea is better then frequent acid descaling, which actually strips away a small layer of copper nickel or titanium each time it is performed.

Yes! ElectroStrainer and ClearLine are electrically isolated and will NOT cause galvanic corrosion.

Yes! ElectroStrainer and ClearLine are safe for the environment and generate about the same level of chlorine in tap drinking water. Chlorinated seawater has a very short half-life with 66% being oxidized in less than one minute. Chlorine is safer than frequent acid descaling, which uses hydrochloric and other harsh acids that are toxic and harmful to humans.

ElectroStrainer and ClearLine require seawater with salinity greater than 20 parts per thousand (ppt). Vessels often encounter brackish or fresh water when cruising inland and from extended storms and freshwater run-off. This low salinity will not harm ElectroStrainer and ClearLine, and they will begin generating chlorine again when salinity is adequate.
